Local Anesthetic Dosing Calculator
Estimates the maximum allowable subcutaneous local anesthetic volume from drug, concentration, and body weight.
INSTRUCTIONS
(1) Weight Selection: You must use Ideal Body Weight (IBW) or Lean Body Mass rather than actual body weight for obese patients to prevent toxicity. (2) The 1% Rule (Conversion): To convert percentage concentration to mg/mL, simply move the decimal point one place to the right. (e.g., 1% Lidocaine = 10 mg/mL; 0.25% Bupivacaine = 2.5 mg/mL). (3) Epinephrine Factor: Only use the higher dosing threshold if the anesthetic is pre-mixed with epinephrine (which causes vasoconstriction, delaying systemic absorption). Do not use the higher threshold for plain anesthetic.
