INSTRUCTIONS
Use this calculator during the first 12 hours after birth in infants with a birthweight of 1500 g or less or a gestational age of below 31 weeks. Select the applicable category for birthweight, gestation, congenital malformation status excluding inevitably lethal malformations, maximum base excess, minimum appropriate FiO2, and maximum appropriate FiO2. The total is the sum of the six item scores and represents the CRIB-I score. The original CRIB model was developed from routine early clinical data to provide a simple, practical index of initial neonatal risk and to improve on birthweight alone for risk adjustment.
