Clinical Risk Index for Babies (CRIB-II)
Early mortality risk score for very preterm infants using birthweight, gestation, sex, admission temperature, and base excess measured shortly after birth.
INSTRUCTIONS
Use this calculator in preterm infants, generally those born at 32 weeks’ gestation or less, during the early admission period. Enter sex, gestational age, birthweight, admission temperature, and the worst base excess from the initial hours after birth. CRIB-II is calculated by summing the points assigned to the sex-specific birthweight-and-gestation grid, the temperature category, and the base excess category. Mortality is then estimated from the published CRIB-II equation: log odds of mortality = -6.476 + 0.450 × CRIB-II, and probability of mortality = exp(log odds) / [1 + exp(log odds)].
