Symptom-based bedside score used to quantify the severity of neonatal abstinence syndrome across central nervous system, autonomic, respiratory, and gastrointestinal domains.
INSTRUCTIONS
Use this calculator to total the highest observed signs during the scoring interval. The Modified Finnegan approach is typically used in opioid-exposed newborns to support serial assessment of withdrawal severity, guide monitoring, and help structure treatment decisions over time rather than from a single isolated score. Scoring is generally performed every 3 to 4 hours, often after feeds, and the recorded score should reflect both the infant’s condition at the time of assessment and the preceding observation period.
